I've seen it a couple of times over the years but watching it again now, in the year 2016, still gives me the chills!  Bates as Wilkes was brilliant and worthy of the Best Actress Oscar Academy Award and Golden Globe Best Actress Award  given to her.   The scenes where she shows her true colors as a psychotic coupled with the close up shots taken from an unusual angle were very effective and in fact, added to the frightening,  "distorted character" effect.   James Caan, the  protagonist and lead actor in this film was outstanding and  convincing as the acclaimed writer Paul Sheldon but  we all have to agree that Kathy Bates rules in this  film and  the role was tailor-made for her.  Richard Farmsworth, Frances Sternhagen and Lauren Bacall  gave great support and  were all  acclaimed actors in their own right.   Director Rob Reiner , known for films like A Few Good Men and Stand By Me was at his best in this film .  This film is a movie adaptation of  Stephen King's novel and as always we are treated to riveting, suspenseful scenes that keep us at  the edge of our seats!  If I can rate it beyond 5 stars I would definitely do!!
