What is FilmDoo?

FilmDoo is an innovative new film discovery platform for people to discover, share and watch great independent and international films that few people might get to otherwise hear about.

We are more than just an online platform though - we're actively helping users to discover these films though our personalised film recommendation technology while building a vibrant social community around the world.

In addition, FilmDoo also has a strong editorial team to help you discover great films. You can find many of our interesting film reviews, interviews and film articles at our blog on www.filmdooworld.com.

What's in the name "FilmDoo"?

The name "FilmDoo" comes from two words "Film" and "Doo". We wanted to have a non-English word in the name to represent our strong focus on international cinema and a global community. The FilmDoo founding team includes a Thai co-founder, hence it was decided to have a Thai word in the name. As "Doo" means "to watch or see" in Thai, "FilmDoo" means to watch a film!

Incidentally, we also like the two double O's in the name, which could be taken for a pair of eyes seeing a film. Let's go discover and "Doo" some great films together!

Why should I sign up to FilmDoo?

FilmDoo is committed to helping our users discover great independent and foreign language films that they may otherwise not have heard off or not had the chance to discover. FilmDoo is great place for people wanting to find and watch great films on their own or with others, perhaps as a night in with their partners, or with friends and family.

Is there a joining fee?

Absolutely not. There is no joining fee or lock-in contract as we want people to discover films without incurring fees in advance. If you choose to watch a film you pay for it, otherwise it's free to use the rest of the site to discover great films from all around the world and to meet like-minded people!

What are FilmDoo's membership requirements?

We don't have any! Simply sign up by creating an account or log in using your Facebook account. The platform is available globally.

How do I become a member?

Either create an account on our Registration page, or create an account by signing in with Facebook, whatever is easiest for you.

What's the sign-up process?

Simply register using Facebook or using your email address and choose a username and a password, and follow the sign-up journey to provide a bit more information about yourself, which will allow us to customise your user experience. Following this easy process, start discovering great movies!

How do I change my account details?

You can edit your account details by clicking on the 'My Account' tab at the top right of the FilmDoo website and then choose to edit your details. Please make sure that you press save otherwise your changes will not be retained in the system.

What do you do with my personal information?

We collect, hold, use and disclose your personal information in accordance with the FilmDoo Privacy Policy. To find out more, please read our Privacy Policy.

Is the use of cookies a breach of my privacy?

We may allow third parties to collect statistical data from our site using their persistent cookies. However, these cookies do not capture information that can personally identify you. They are simply used to evaluate and measure the effectiveness of our marketing (e.g. banner ads). In addition, we may transmit web site usage information about our site visitors to third party ad servers (including DoubleClick, MediaMind, Facilitate Digital and Efficient Frontier) for the purpose of targeting our Internet banner advertisements on other sites. To do this, we use Web beacons and cookies provided by our third-party ad servers on our site.

Why does FilmDoo have a community then?

We believe watching films is still a social experience - so we want to create a place to help people discover, watch and talk about great films from all over the world, sharing their experience with others and helping to inspire them.

What happens when I follow people?

When you follow people you will be able to see their activity, the films they liked, films reviewed or films they want to see.

How do I find people to follow?

In the Community section or directly from the Review (and other) pages.

Where did you get my avatar from?

We suggest using Gravatar as a way to create your avatar in the first instance, based on the email address you used when creating your account. If you login with Facebook then your avatar will be drawn from your Facebook feed.

How do I give someone respect or kudos for their reviews?

When you read someone's post that you liked or thought was helpful, you can rate it by clicking a button at the bottom of their post. This will give them a kudos, which can translate into perks for the user in the future.

Why do some people have different titles in the FilmDoo community?

The more a user participates and gets involved in the FilmDoo community, whether through providing reviews, comments or other activities, the higher the user's rank and the more badges the user earns! This helps other members of the FilmDoo community recognize those users who are regular contributors and whose reviews and suggestions they should consider following.

STREAMING FILMS ON FILMDOO

How does FilmDoo's streaming work then?

FilmDoo's streaming gives you the ability to stream hundreds of great international and independent movies instantly through a large range of connected devices.

What is the file size of FilmDoo's movies?

The total size of a movie varies from title to title, largely depending on the length of the movie. Typically a 90-minute movie will require approximately 1GB (Gigabyte) of data transfer if you watch it from beginning to end. If you are concerned about your data usage limit, we suggest you consult with your Internet Service Provider to determine your data allowance and whether it is appropriate to use the FilmDoo Streaming service.

What is the picture quality like on FilmDoo streaming?

Picture quality will vary between different playback devices (due to specifications) and is also dependent upon the quality of the internet connection that the service is being streamed on. Another factor is how many people are using your internet connection at any given time. These factors are the most significant influences on picture quality.

On most devices under normal conditions, the picture quality of FilmDoo content is as good as you would get on free to air television. It should also be noted that the picture quality will vary to accommodate changes in the performance of your internet service - so that you can have an un-interrupted viewing experience.

Do FilmDoo films have subtitles in English?

Absolutely. Many of our films are not in English so we include subtitles by default for such films. In the future we hope to expand the range of subtitles to include other languages such as Spanish, French, Mandarin and German.

Is data usage included in the streaming of FilmDoo films?

Charges for data usage by your Internet Service Provider are not included or covered by FilmDoo. We suggest that you speak with your Internet Service Provider if you have any concerns about your data usage.

Can I watch FilmDoo films offline?

No, not at the moment. FilmDoo streaming requires your viewing device to be connected to the Internet in order to stream and watch films.

How often does FilmDoo update its catalogue?

Every week! We have an increasing number of films available for you to watch. Every week we will send you an email letting you know what new titles have been adding and recommending films to match your tastes.

How are FilmDoo's titles priced?

Our prices vary according to the title, typically impacted by the age and popularity of the title.

How do I get the best streaming for FilmDoo's films?

To get the most out of streaming FilmDoo films you will need a minimum Internet connection speed of at least 1.5Mbps. To view high definition movies devices you will need a service that operates at least at a speed of 3.5Mbps.

The number of devices you have connected to your Internet connection may also affect the speed of your broadband service. For optimal streaming performance, please make sure you have closed any other Internet connected devices or applications that may be using up bandwidth. The quality of your broadband service may also vary at different times of the day, which is dependent on your Internet service provider.

When I try to stream a movie nothing happens?

Depending on the speed of your Internet connection, you may need to allow a few minutes for your film to buffer before the title starts to play. Buffering is when your device is loading enough of the stream in advance so that you can enjoy continuous uninterrupted playback thereafter.

If nothing happens after a few minutes, attempt to play the title again or select another title. If this does not work, please check your Internet connection is working by testing another Internet connected device (e.g. try looking at another website on your computer). We also suggest that you check other household members are not attempting to download large files as that may have an affect on the performance of your Internet service.

If your Internet connection appears to be working fine and you are still not able to play a movie, please contact us and we will investigate the matter.

What happens if my film freezes and will not restart?

First, we recommend checking your Internet connection to ensure that it is still working, perhaps by testing another Internet connected device. We also suggest that you check other household members are not attempting to download large files, especially torrent files, as this may affect the performance of your Internet service. We then recommend logging out and signing back into FilmDoo again. When you purchase a film it is available for 48 hours so you will be able to watch the film during this period. If you are still experiencing problems, please contact us and we will investigate the matter.

What forms of payment are available?

You can currently pay by VISA and MasterCard as well as by PayPal. We are also considering other payment methods and as they become available, we'll be sure to let you know.

How are my credit card details processed?

FilmDoo uses Braintree Payment Solutions, which is one of the leading payment gateways in the world and now a part of the PayPal family, to process payments. Consequently, we are confident that your credit card details are in safe hands as Braintree is recognized as a market leader. This means we meet the standards set out by the Payment Card Industry for your security.

USING THE FILMDOO WEBSITE

How should I use this site?

Up to you - that's part of the fun, helping to discover and share great films at FilmDoo! We would love you to mark films you have seen, films you want to see and perhaps add reviews and comments to help other people find those gems. The more involved you get with the site, the more you will get out of it, as the website will build your personal profile and give you tailored film suggestions.

Aside from reviewing or commenting on films, you can also rate films so that people know about them. FilmDoo is going to continually make this process easier and more enjoyable for each user to get involved.

How can I give my feedback on a film?

FilmDoo has various ways that you can express or comment on a film. You can mark a film that you have previously watched as 'Seen It', which tells FilmDoo that you have seen the film at some point in the past. In addition, you can also give it a rating out of 5 stars to express your opinion on the film. Doing so allows us to understand the kind of films you like and to be able to better tailor our film recommendations especially for you.

You can also express an interest to see a film or to add it to your account so that you can watch it another time. If the film is not yet available in your country, you can mark the film as "Want to See" or "Bring it Here" for our attention so that we can try to acquire the film to show on FilmDoo.

Can I publish my reviews to other social media sites?

You can currently publish your reviews to Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.

Are my profile, reviews and lists publicly visible?

Yes.

Where does FilmDoo get its film data from?

We get our film data from two sources, first from TMDb (tmdb.org), which is a crowd-sourced database of film-related information. Secondly, we also add film data ourselves which we get from a variety of sources.

How do I add a film to the FilmDoo database?

You will need to let us know. Firstly, create a FilmDoo account and then drop us a line at info@filmdoo.com with the film you want added. If we think it qualifies to be on FilmDoo, then we will add it.

Should I report duplicate films in FilmDoo's database?

Yes, please do. Occasionally films are duplicated by mistake so please do let us know.

Does FilmDoo support TV shows?

No, not as of yet. Whilst we love many TV-shows, for the time being we are focusing on discovering great films.

I can't find a film I've seen, can I add it to FilmDoo?

The main source of our film data is from TMDB (tmdb.org), which is a crowd-sourced film data source. You can flag films for us to add by dropping us a note at info@filmdoo.com and we will try to add them if they meet our criteria.

Do you have a mobile app?

Alas not yet, although we do plan to release one in time.

Can I partner with FilmDoo?

Absolutely. We welcome all ideas for ways we can work together and spread great films, so drop us a line and we look forward to working with you.

Can I use your logo on my site?

Yes, more than happy for you to do so, but would be appreciate it if you could let us know beforehand.

I have noticed FilmDoo is missing some things, what should I do?

Please let us know! We have a lot of great ideas but need your feedback to make sure we give you the best film discovery experience.

Can I cast FilmDoo films on my Smart TV?

We are currently only able to support Chromecast (3rd Generation) o FilmDoo. If you would like to watch the film on your TV, you should be able to connect via AirPlay and via HDMI cable.
