Curling is not so much about the sport of curling; what it has in common though, is the fragments of the target in the game, and the fragments of the film that follows the life of reclusive handyman Jean-Francois and his odd relationship with the world around him. Emmanuel Bilodeau delivers a great performance and the chemistry with his movie-daughter works perfectly. The fact that they also are related in real life probably helps. The ambiance and slow pace of the film makes it deserve the title of French-Canadian Fargo. Some might find the film depressing but it is worth to go beyond that barrier as CURLING is mostly a film about unconditional love. VG
