Is it just me, or do Danish filmmakers have a knack for creating dramas that go straight to the core of the inconsistencies of the human condition? At least, Susanne Bier does. This film won the Oscar for best Foreign film in 2010 and its easy to see why - it veers a little close to descending into sentimentality. But a gripping depiction of a family man in crisis as he struggles to maintain his moral code. The film looks at old questions about strength, masculinity and justice in a modern way.
