An intersex teenager comes to terms with her gender, and sexuality, in this beautiful account of young hearts and big issues, tenderly unpeeled. Ines Efron is extraordinary, and it was clear from the beginning that Lucia Puenzo was going to make a name for herself in Argentine cinema, as she explores delicate, rarely talked about themes, before ethereal Argentine backdrops. An excellent way to kick off the beginning of a Puenzo trilogy - followed by the dark, pulsing 'The Fish Child' before taking a fascinating detour into Argentina's shadier history in 'Wakolda'.
