Viewers may find the animated film confusing at times but I personally relish the visual imagery and  the way it engages the viewer.  A   chance encounter on a bus ride ensues a series of  scenes that seem to elaborate the profound feelings that resulted from it.  I was  particularly interested of the recurrence of fishes and it may be  telling the viewers that these persons are "fishing" for  more thoughts and information about each other.  Latter scenes will indicate that the girl seems to long or think of the other person and from the looks of it, the chance encounter in the bus was likened to that of drinking green tea.  I think another way to put it would be to conclude that "first impressions last".
