Predictable, tired, rammed with seen-it-all-befores and done-better-elswheres, this prequel that is to kick start a series of character-centric X-Men films is a major disappointment. Hugh Jackman does what he can with a leaden narrative pocked with desperate tragedies and silly action sequences, as does a buffed Ryan Reynolds in a thankless villain role, but the only things you'll remember are the atrocious special effects and an underused Taylor Kitsch as the drop dead gorgeous Gambit. Where did it all go wrong?
