W.A.K.A.
AKA Woman Acts for her Kid Adam
Cameroon, 2015, 97 minutes, HD
W.A.K.A. Synopsis

This brave, no-holds-barred Cameroonian first feature W.A.K.A. (Woman Acts for her Kid Adam), tells the story of Matilda (Patricia Bakalack), a 30-something barmaid facing numerous post-pregnancy struggles. When Max enters her life, she begins to explore a way in which she can bring her child into the world that would come with financial but not necessarily moral support. This is an unflinching account of a not uncommon issue, bristling with verve and conviction from newcomers Ellong and Bakalack.

this is a wonderful piece of art.the acting ,the story, the end ,everything is very authentic and sincere.it's for sure one of the best movies directed by a cameroonian.i was personnally touched by the story because i knew a girl in my neighbourhood who was confronted to the same issue and who took the same way like mathilda .fortunately she's still alive and changed the direction of her life. the director françoise Ellong  is really awesome.i was expecting a good movie from her but she delivered a GREAT movie .it's a blessing to have such a Young and talented  woman coming from africa and precisely from my beloved cameroon.i'm eager to Watch other movies from her. marvelous job guys!

The movie is an eye-opening journey where it concerns motherhood and being a person of strength and resilience despite of facing so many struggles.  Matilda's plight is so heartbreaking and the things she had to experience just to feed for her son was shockingly sad. She hurdled it and tested her strength as a woman and while it's not a totally happy ending the good investment she did for her son was reaped in a way that the son grew up to be a good person. The acting portrayals are very impressive, Paticia Bakalack as Matilda was expressive and attuned to the role; and the actor who played Max, the pimp was commendable.  Musical scoring was also impressive, this is a great masterpiece from director Francoise Ellong.  Worth checking out!

Really appreciated this first feature film from director Francoise Ellong. The emotions are so heartfelt, acting performances so straight forward and there's something about the way that the actors deliver the lines that convey the smooth flow of dialogue.  Cinematography and the way shots are edited are so well-placed. The mother and son bond was also well-established. Above all, this is a story about a woman who has to go through so much just to ensure that she protects her son from the ugly realities of the world.  Matilda is indeed one admirable woman and Patricia Bakalack well-portrayed the character. Highly recommended!
