One of the powers of film is its ability to lift us out if our world and place us somewhere unknown. It's not just geography but a sense of location and culture, and even gossip. This ability is a particular gift of short films. They are direct, succinct and pointed. Warchinf this film in my room in the heart of London, I was immediately transported to a village in a part of the world I know very little about. Within moments I had a sense of the people and place and, yes, even the gossip. This film may have a few technical issues, but they don't count for much compared to the 'ark' of the film - the ideas of family, sexuality and culture it explores. There is real power in this intimate little gem.
