Umgulukudu Synopsis

When Sipho and John go visit Uncle Joshua for the holidays, they accidentally get involved in rescuing Thandi, the local mayor’s daughter, who has been taken hostage by an escaped criminal known as Benson.

With John’s bravery and Sipho’s genius, the boys work together to defeat the convict at his own game, ultimately saving the day and making a new friend in Thandi in the process.

This fast-paced tale of youth, crime and adventure would quickly spawn the 1985 sequel Thunder Valley.

I enjoyed watching the film because it clearly showed that the bad will never triumph over the good. When the mayor's daughter was kidnapped, John and Sipho really thought of ways to save her from the kidnapper Benson. The movie also indicates though that you don't have to be an adult to help solve a crime and in this case, Sipho's genius mind was put to good use. While the actors who played Sipho and John were quite commendable, the acting of the girl who played the mayor's daughter was quite unnatural and awkward at times.

An African crime and adventure movie that also features young talents. As it is with the other films I've seen lately, this film delves on the topic of kidnapping as a means to extort money from people. Benson, the kidnapper is quite commendable in terms of acting portrayal although it were the teen boys who really saved the day.  This film produced a sequel probably because of its popularity during the '80s era.
