Haru, a middleaged Japanese man, returns home after a tsunami, in denial. Trapped inside his home, he discovers a Spirit of the Sea. After initially ignoring it, he soon realizes the creature is drying out and dying. Nature’s balance must be restored in order for life to go on and for the village to be rebuilt, and Haru is now faced with a choice - Should he stay in denial, or face reality and his loss by helping the creature back to the ocean?
