There is something about this kid Trompie  that will annoy you to bits but also endear you to him.  This very naughty boy along with his friends sometimes get into trouble thanks to the imaginative mind of this feisty but  very annoying kid.  However, at the latter part he becomes sort of a changed young lad and I'd have to say this is all because of the calm and kind dog.  Despite of the annoyance though the viewers can't help but enjoy the film and take in the local sceneries of the African landscape.

This recently restored 1975 film is a joy to watch. It gives us a glimpse of a typical teener's life and the usual adventures he does with his friends. Trompie may be a little overly naughty and can really be a pain for his parents but it also mirrors a phase of a kid's life that's carefree and complete with illusionary and make-believe games of war and other usual boy stuff.  The actor who portrays Trompie, Andre Laubscher, was outstanding in his acting performance and at present is now a medical doctor by profession.  The TV series of which the film is based from is a well-loved and well-followed  show by local Africans in the '70s. Hilarious and  with a youthful vibe!

Based on the popular African book series of Topsy Smith, this film follows the adventures but mostly misadventures of Trompie and his friends namely Blikkies, Dawie and Rooie, all typical young teens who are hungry for adventure and exploration with a great dose of naughtiness.  The scenes which shows the ruckus caused by the baboon was especially funny, I have to give due credit to the baboon for its natural acting talent, with a naughtiness that equals that of Trompie! If you're fond of classic old films then this is a must-see!
