King of Escape Synopsis

A film about tractors, aphrodisiacs and forbidden love from Alain Guiraudie, the Cannes Award Winning director of STRANGER BY THE LAKE.

Armand is a gay tractor salesman and not the sharpest tool in the shed. When he rescues Curly, the daughter of his greatest rival, the two embark on a mad chase through the forest pursued by a very angry father with a gun. Totally unknown to Armand, however, is the bizarre sexual frenzy he’s ignited in the other men in town, with him as the object of their desire…

Hilarious, daring and outrageously controversial, KING OF ESCAPE is a riotous French sex comedy about raising cocks in rural France.

Strange, disturbing and quite confusing!  I'd say these words describe what I  felt when I watched this.  The lead character Armand who's been pictured as a middle-aged and overweight man who seems to prefer gay men is relentlessly pursued by a teenage girl madly in love with him and they go running here and there and across the French countryside while being tracked down by the girl's father.  I thought it would go on forever, the chasing and running but thank goodness Armand tricked the girl and off he goes. But surprise,  viewers will have quite a shock to with the final scene (what it is you have to find out!).  There are sexually graphic scenes that others may find shocking and so I guess what makes this film in a league of it own is its ability to shock viewers, subtly at times, major big time at other times. Blame it on the doo root aphrodisiac perhaps?! Do check this film out and be prepared to be challenged, amazed and confused, all at the same time!

Quite odd and confusing but an interesting movie by Guiraudie. The lead character of Armand is the focus of the story although  his character becomes more pronounced and known with the help of a support cast ranging from his boss, to the father of Curly , Curly herself and the gay friends of Armand.  At times comedic, both verbally and visually,  what viewers can easily notice was how Armand, a middle-aged tractor salesman who's not too happy with his life seems to have a colorful sex life, both with a man and a woman or should I say, a teenage girl who's already so sexually active. Armand seems very comfortable with his body though, regardless of his bulky weight and at least a couple of scenes he is seen running here and there, amidst vast fields in the countryside, with just his underwear on.  Ludovic Berthillot portrayed the character of Armand quite well; meek, soft-spoken, harmless yet an animal unleashed where it concerns sexual adventures. Not everyone will somehow be able to appreciate the ideas presented in this film, but for those who fancy queer yet engrossing films then you better check this out!
