THE FUTURE is one of these films with interesting characters, little to no plot, and situations that unfold gradually. Not for everyone then. There are quite a lot of quirky, happy-go-lucky type films out there at the moment, so it's fair enough to question if we need another one with THE FUTURE. But Miranda July, fresh from the delightful YOU,ME AND EVERYONE WE KNOW, reaches the delicate balance between schmaltzy weird sentimentality and engaging, poignant eccentricity. The soundtrack from Jon Brion is a masterpiece that illustrates the film perfectly. I'd recommend to anyone who enjoys a good talking cat and quirky romance.

Apparently the future isn't characterised by flying cars or mutant crocodile men emerging from the sewers but by talking cats and people with quirky names like 'Miranda July'. My inability to tell the difference between the film's two leads was redeemed by the script’s snazzy way with words and wacky sense of reality. The moral of the story is, don’t waste your time doing inconsequential things like making senseless Youtube videos, getting mixed up in childish relationship games or directing Me and You and Everyone We Know and start taking responsibility for your life and actions. Truth!
