Tenderness

Tenderness Synopsis

A light-hearted road movie through the Alps, Tenderness gently explores two profoundly sincere beings for whom we can only feel affection.

Lise and Frans have been separated for the past 15 years, yet find themselves together again for the duration of a two day journey to go and get their son, a ski instructor hospitalized in another country after a serious ski accident. What do they still feel for one another - indifference, rancor, jealousy? Or perhaps complicity, friendship and, who knows, even love?

Well-executed story with an unassuming charm! This is a nice piece of work from director Marion Hansel, who interestingly, also wrote its screenplay. Impressive cinematography and equally impressive acting performances from Gourmet, Canto and the rest of the cast  including Spanish actor Sergi Lopez as the hitchhiker. Viewers will be caught up in the cast's interactions with each other and their individualities but most of all of the boundless possibilities that could present itself.  If you're looking for a good film that you can watch at home on a weekend then this should be on your list!

I'd have to say this film stays true to its title, for it's brimming with tender moments indeed! This heartwarming family cum road trip film gives viewers a peek on the interactions between an injured son and his parents who have long been divorced. The simple plot may be quite common by now but the film presents interesting scenarios  that give a fresh twist to things. Highly commendable acting performances by lead stars Marilyne Canto and Olivier Gourmet as the parents of the injured ski instructor son. It may be fiction but the situations breathe hints of reality, as more and more families become disoriented nowadays due to divorce and separation. A must-watch!

A short but particularly impactful French comedy-cum-road movie film that's both hilarious and well...tender. Tenderness follows Lise and Frans who have been separated for the past 15 years, after their son is injured in a ski accident, the pair have to spend a two day car journey together to go rescue him. The premise itself doesn't sound like one ripe for hilarity, and it might have been a misnomer to describe Tenderness as so. It's not laugh out loud funny but more humorous in its familiarity. A great and under seen comedy that my only major gripe with is that it was not 20 minutes longer.
