Inspirational as viewers see an athlete's rise to stardom and fame but also I find this a very sad account between a mother and a son.  The emotional outbursts by both the mother and the son definitely calls for healing and acceptance from each side.  One thing that viewers can get from this film would be that financial gain is nothing when your family relationship is in the dumps.

Leonardo, now a successful soccer player goes back to his old home in Rio de Janeiro and  it's amazing to know the journey of a then 11 year old boy from the slums to the professional world of soccer.  Film maker Jos de Putter who was instrumental in the discovery of Leonardo tags along with Leonardo on this trip back to Rio, documenting him as it once was, 20 years ago.  Old and new footage placed side by side gives clarity and viewers are amazed with Leonardo's innate soccer skills, even way back as a kid.  Compelling documentary of a young man's  ordeal to becoming one of the famous soccer players and the stories of his childhood genuinely told.

A very inspiring documentary and also an emotional  one as Leonardo returns to his roots in Rio de Janeiro and interacts with the people he grew up with especially Anselmo, who also loves soccer like him. The emotional reunion between Leonardo and his former mentor was a scene that could tear you up.  A revealing account of the life of a successful soccer player.

  • Success never came easy for Leonardo but when it did,  it really brought about major changes especially in terms of their financial state. However, one can never really say that with success you can have everything.  For Leonardo,  it was quite painful as it showed that he and his mother have almost become worlds apart.

  • engrossing documentary and I can feel the deep anguish of Leonardo's mother who seems to have been left in the sidelines when he becomes involved with girls.
