A Buddhist monastery and youth shelter is an unlikely place for a murder. And when this happened, an unlikely investigator in saffron robes is called upon to solve the crime. Father Ananda is called to solve the mystery behind the murder and reveal what is behind these monastic walls. The film adaptation of the first of Father Ananda Mystery series is as exciting if not exceeding that of Poirot and Marple in unwrapping the reasons behind the murder

I find this film very interesting and almost all of the cast members did superbly well in terms of acting. The police major, the police officer and the lady reporter did well in their portrayals and the superintendent's role, Father Ananda's former boss who gave him insights on the case was a pivotal one, it was him who suggested that it could be a crime of passion. This makes me reminisce those days when I used to read Sidney Sheldon books. A riveting crime thriller you shouldn't miss!

A crime committed under the noses of the Buddhist monks in a youth shelter is not an ordinary case. And it requires an extraordinary person to solve it, that's why Father Ananda is called to help the police solve it. This film adaptation of Nick Wilgus first book of the Father Ananda series is as thrilling as the book itself. Tom Waller's fascination in applying ancient teachings in modern times is again put on the spotlight in creating this mystery thriller.

An interesting plot and a scenario that may be near-truth considering that spiritual asylums like monasteries are the last places to think of when it comes to illegal business and drug dealings.  The film has great strengths especially when it comes to acting performances.  It also paves the way for viewers to become acquainted with the Thai culture and the lives of monks.  I  highly recommend this film!

This is a detective-mystery-crime movie that is worth your 86 minutes. It will test your skills in solving a crime, leading you into a maze of clues, suspects and even lies and cover-ups. For the inquisitive viewer, the actuations and expressions of actors are clues in itself and you as the viewer is nonetheless invited to become an active participant in uncovering the grim plot and motives behind the crime. The lead character of Father Ananda is a stand-out and he becomes even more outstanding in his role thanks to the stellar support cast. Viewers will also appreciate and get to experience the Thai culture especially in terms of religion, with this film.  Eye-opening and impressive!

Well-crafted plot and with compelling performances! The film manifests signs right from the start that it's an effective mystery-crime story as the viewers go on a never-ending chase and guessing game but with no clear conclusion, just like the central character, Father Ananda, portrayed by Vithaya Pansringarm.  As a mystery/suspense thriller fan  I got hooked with the movie, from beginning to end. Father Ananda's grit and determination to uncover and go after the killer led to very unlikely circumstances and the killer cobra was symbolically relevant as it slithers to its victim cunningly and viciously.  Hats off to V. Pansringarm for his magnetic and realistic acting performance as well as Wannasak Sirilak as the murderer monk. Very interesting to note that Pansringarm also co-wrote the screenplay of the film which was based on a novel by Nick Wilgus. While almost all of the cast portrayed their roles well I was so drawn to the boy who played the role of Jak, the polio-ridden assistant of Father Ananda. His performance was stellar and embodied the traits of an average child in all his playfulness and genuineness. Viewers will similarly be dazzled with his toothful smiles. This film deserves more than a 5-star rating not only for the clean sequence of scenes, outstanding cinematography but also for the emotions that it evoked upon its viewers.  Definitely, definitely a must-watch!

  • very impressed with the main cast and the actors with supporting roles.  Prinya Intachai as Brother Satchapalo was intense in his role, not a major character but he made an impact plus the good looks was unmistakable.  very laudable film!
