Marion Cotillard is stunning in this biographical film which focuses on the work and private life of the musical prodigy Edith Piaf. The chronology is not linear and jars in an effective posturing of documentary. We are able to see the tragic side to Piaf's life and how this is inextricably linked to her music and performance. The film is moving and it's great to hear Piaf's booming songs (although not sung by Cotillard herself).
