Knockout Joe Synopsis

When Max, the owner of a brick manufacturing company, is given 50 carats worth of diamonds to smuggle out of the country for a fee of R5 million, he is completely unaware he is being set up.

With an undercover cop closely keeping surveillance, Max sets out with two comrades and while on route to their destination, the diamonds mysteriously go missing.

In the end, Max and his accomplices are arrested by the undercover cop, and it’s revealed that they are the ones that tried to double cross Max by secretly stealing the diamonds for themselves.

The film is about a man named Max who tries to smuggle diamonds from the country and goes on a journey with two men who turned out to have bad motives towards him. I didn't find any actor who stood out in terms of acting performance and some viewers may even find the film dragging and a bit boring, especially with narrations every now and then.  The scenic shots of local African landscape including shots of birds and crocodiles somehow made up for some of the dull scenes.

For an instant I became very confused while watching the film, during the scene where a woman (probably his wife) visits Max in prison.  There is an obvious background noise that sounds like machine noises, much like the ones we hear in sci-fi movies. At first I thought it's some kind of glitch, but the second instance it's there again. So I was confused if the said scene, where the woman is berating Max, was meant to be comedic, thus, the weird background noise.  There were scenes that seem to drag on and the dialogue sometimes can distract the viewers.

  • I think the film tries to convey the abundance of diamonds in Africa, as was common knowledge  but the story itself doesn't have much depth, maybe in part because of acting performances that can still be improved.
