What makes something more painful is not expressing who you are to people who don't understand, but more so,  the  feeling of being pushed away and given that nonchalant attitude.  For James,  expressing himself to his teacher was a brave move but had  there been no strained relationship between his parents  there would have been no complexities involved.  This makes  us realize how important an open and loving parent-child relationship is.  Sure, kids  sometimes can be so secretive, but  with a nurturing relationship any issue should be easily resolved,  involving a child's struggle in accepting himself and his true sexuality.
