A huge, huge disappointment, and not just because I loved the book, which this film does not do justice to, but because the whole thing is such a muddle. I cannot understand any of the hype for this mess. Characterization is nil, the stroy doesn't know which direction to go, there are gaping plot holes and lots left unexplained. It's impressive to look at, to be sure, with production values aces and some fancy camerawork, but other than that everything else is such a terrible waste of time. And why, with London's property prices now higher than ever before and the face of Capitalism at its most grotesque, wasn't this story told in the present day? Wheatley messed up on this one.
