One of the best historical films to come out of Philippine cinema, Heneral Luna reminds us that heroes and leaders are also humans. Heneral Luna came from the upper middle class Filipino family. The brother of hero/national artist Juan Luna, educated in Spain and a military genius. His philosophies, military strategy and disciplinary actions do not blend with his compatriots and subordinates. His volatility and love for arts and literature serve as a conundrum to his complex personality. This film truly defined Philippine history as it was and it is today. The story, setting, costumes and music are well researched and conform with oral and written historical facts.
