Melissa Leo takes a meandering and at times soapish storyline that is a little too reliant on the odd tearjerk, and transforms it into something extremely intense and uplifting. Worthy of her Oscar nomination, it is Leo, playing a desperate mum who shuttles immigrants for cash, who carries the entire film, leaving her co-stars in the dust. The barren surrounds of the Canadian/American border are the perfect backdrop for the actress to eat up the screen, which she does with gutsy aplomb. More Melissa Leo please!
