Fear of Water
United Kingdom (GB), 2015, 100 minutes
The summer that changed everything
Fear of Water Synopsis

Eleanor is a young girl who abides to strict schedules, planned markers of success, and managed expectations in a well-manicured house infused with silence. Alexia, on the other hand, only ever thinks about tomorrow and to escape her tough upbringing. Sharing lazy summer days, rushed first kisses, and round-trip departures from home life – Alexia and Eleanor’s summer together transcends boundaries between class and love before truly realizing such boundaries exist. When tensions escalate, they stand up for one another before knowing what their brave acts of defiance really mean.

Creating a beautiful portrait of self-discovery, Fear of Water is an honest depiction of conquering one’s fears, breaking out from one’s shell, and finding happiness even from unexpected sources.

Best lesbian film I've seen on filmdoo so far!  The acting is very strong and the story feels very organic and honest. Some of the locations are stunning especially the lake. This film compared to others feels so much more real can really relate to what the characters are going through have had similar experiences myself and got quite emotional watching some of it.

Loved it! My favourite coming-of-age film so far!   A realistic portrayal of adolescence, exploring the complex relationships between women. Lily Loveless is phenomenal.  Great story had me gripped the whole way and was really invested in the characters and their problems.  Very different to other lesbian films and more about the feelings rather than sex. Refreshing!

Beautiful film! The chemistry between the two girls is electric! Acting is amazing and emotional. Lily Loveless best performance so far, was great to see how far she's come.  its an intimate film about the first feelings you have as a young girl and the confusion of it all and struggle of fitting in. Really touching and relatable. Love the whole soundtrack too some brilliant songs.

This  charming coming of age movie also tackles lesbianism and of the joys of youth and discovering the good and bad sides of life itself.  It's very interesting how two young ladies from opposite side of the tracks would be drawn to each other and share a common bond. Eleonor who's well-educated and protected by family is a stark contrast to  Alexia who has to deal drugs to support her jobless father and tyrant mother who does nothing but sit, drink and yell. The lead characters of  Loveless and Partridge give convincing portrayals as Alexia and Eleonor, respectively. This movie won Best Original Music at the Monaco International Film Festival.  A must-see!

This is a very affecting film about two young women, Eleonor and Alexia,  who share a deep bond and genuine friendship despite of the fact that they are from two opposite socio-economic backgrounds. The shambles and the disarray in their lives, somehow bring them closer together. This poignant coming of age movie also depicts how it is to conquer one's fears and in finding happiness and comfort from unexpected things. Loveless as Alexia and Partridge as Eleonor  gave out very intense and commendable performances and I extremely like the musical scoring and soundtrack.  Worth checking out!
