Cockles and Muscles Synopsis

Marc takes his wife Béatrix and their two children to the seaside house of his youth, but before long the summer holiday begins to fall apart. Nineteen-year-old daughter Laura has a rendez-vous with her biker boyfriend and then heads off to Spain, while their son Charly, 17, is getting suspiciously intimate with another boy.

When Béatrix's lover Mathieu shows up, and Marc's old flame appears, complications ensue and the holiday descends into chaos.

Acclaimed French actors Gilbert Melki and Jean-Marc Barr head up a cast of comic performers who bring a touch of quirkiness to this summery crowd-pleaser.

Won the Label Europa Cinemas at Berlin International Film Festival, 2005

This film is yet another testament how the French tackle issues like sexuality and sexual desires with finesse and in a funny manner! (blame it on the shellfish!) Other issues tackled include friendship, relationships, youth and infidelity, among others.  The cast is impressive especially the couple who played Beatrix and Marc and was genuinely surprised it's a musical comedy of sorts! I love that musical number of the couple by the staircase, singing about, what else but shellfish! Quirky film and you'll start to see shellfish in a different light the next time you see or eat them! Do check out this film guys.

Impressive performances by the cast most especially Tedeschi and Melki as couple Marc and Beatrix.  Theirs is the typical family albeit with some little secrets along the way.  Daughter Laura is frank and headstrong while son Charly, whom they suspect as gay is rebellious and quite callous towards them. Conflicts arise with the couple's ex-flames enter the picture  and all in all a tastefully interesting family movie. Musical scoring laudable and some scenes draw in the laughs. Worth checking out!
