Herzog is a quizzical guide who takes us right into the experience of entering and exploring the cave. He takes us to the stunning cave art itself. Herzog's own way to conduct the interviews from experts is unexpected and wonderful. The camera and 3D filming gives an absolutely uncanny sense of being present in the cave, especially in the final sequence. The documentary is a masterclass in cinematography: you can fully enjoy to truly experience and absorb the paintings. The tone and pace of the film might seem slow and cold, though it fits well to the context. Some might regret that the focus on Art fails to give enough historical and ethnical context, but CAVE OF FORGOTTEN DREAMS is a dark and deep beauty.
