Overlong, surprisingly straightforward Cold War drama, whose strengths are the performances and smooth cinematography, but whose weaknesses are the conventional plotting, lachrymose Thomas Newman score, and Spielberg's self-indulgent pacing. Compared to Thomas Vinterberg's far superior Tinker Tailor this doesn't cut the Colman's.
