Adolescents in the Universe Synopsis

In the second part of Richard Viktorov's "Kids in Space" diptych, the teenaged crew of the starship Dawn find themselves arriving at their destination in the distant star system Shedar twenty-seven years ahead of schedule due to a handy, if unintended, light-speed jump. Upon landing, they discover that the planet is now ruled by an army of disco-styled robots, who wish to bring about happiness by stripping their human creators of all emotions.

The details, costumes and characters easily caught my attention and I was quite amused with the robots. There was this scene where one of the teens questioned two robots who stood on guard and she bombarded them with  mathematical equations, the last question that involved analysis somehow proved too much as the two robots exploded, good riddance, that was one scene that stuck to my mind in this film!  Musical scoring was quite unique although I noticed that at some point it seems inappropriate for a certain scene. I was quite amazed with the production design of the movie, too.

What struck me immediately were the costumes as they were impressive and visually appealing.  The disco-styled robots were also unique and over all the production design is commendable although what they referred as another planet seems like it was a scene shot along the beachfront. The glitches are understandable though considering this was a film from the '70s era. The teens did fairly well in their acting portrayals although sometimes I get a sense they were just huddled in a sort of summer camp. Quite engrossing to watch.
