Abathumbi Synopsis

In another unpredictable gem from the iconic Tonie Van Der Merwe, a mysterious gangster known only as “Boss” infiltrates the home of a local pastor with a devious scheme to abduct the pastor’s nephew in order to get a heavy ransom from the boy’s wealthy father. Unfortunately for "Boss", he is let down by the ineptitude and incompetence of his two underlings.

Now it's up to the young nephew, his two cousins and a good Samaritan neighbour to work together to defeat the crooks, foil the plans of the conniving gangster boss and save the day.

There are good action and fight scenes in this film that are rather suspenseful especially the fight scene between Harry the bad guy and the white man/neighbor. Harry a.k.a. The Boss was too fortunate to have two incompetent assistants and these men provide some comic relief in this film, like that scene where they are praying before supposedly killing the kids.  Their being gullible and nut-headed got the better of them.  This is a story that also touches on spiritual issues in accordance to the topics tackled in this movie like man's greed for money, among others.

This is another Tonie Van Der Merwe  masterpiece worth checking out.  A story of deception,  crime and also of resourcefulness. Glad to see the actor who played the pastor here, he also played a priest in another African film. The worship songs were great and the pastor has a nice voice.  Acting portrayals are commendable especially that of the children who acted naturally in this film.
