A Perfect Ending
United States of America (US), 2012, 110 minutes, SD
A Perfect Ending Synopsis

Rebecca has a very unusual secret, one that not even her best friends know about. The last person on earth she expects to reveal it to is a high priced escort named Paris. What starts as a comedy of errors ends up a uniquely erotic journey. Rebecca's unconventional efforts to find herself are raw, evocative, and often times humorous, but always very real, very human. Sometimes a perfect ending is not what you expect it to be.

Such an impressive film despite the modest budget! I heard this film was made with only a budget of USD 175,000 and yet the results will astound you; a compelling story with equally compelling performances from a powerhouse cast. Niven leads the way as the middle-aged and refined Rebecca who has things to iron out before she passes on. Clark as Paris was exquisite and with a rich, low tone voice that's sensual and fitting for the role. Surprised to see Morgan Fairchild here as the head of the escort service where Paris works for, she may have aged but her classy enigma was there, as always.  Aside from the engrossing story, another element that caught my attention was the art works, sketches and other creative techniques in this film. The ink blots, the specks, the dots and the little rocks amidst a white surface seems surreal but nonetheless with a special meaning attached to it. Clearly, director and writer Nicole Conn was very particular with details in this film. There are countless close-up shots not only of objects and statues but also of skin and facial features during intimate scenes that were tastefully done, never appearing to be sleazy.  Truly, this film earned my praise and appreciation and will surely check out the rest of the films by Nicole Conn. This film deserves a perfect 5-star!

How would you like to conclude your life, your existence? I think, this question forms part of what the movie would like to drive into. For Rebecca,  she wanted it to have a perfect ending, and perfect it was. But the journey towards that end was not easy, it had to undergo rough seas and turbulence. She had to fight for what's worth for her children, she had to be strong and she had to rediscover herself, including her sexuality.  This film is about Rebecca, a middle-aged housewife from the burbs who felt the need to secure her children's future but at the same time anxious and curious to experience the realm of passion and desire. An unlikely person, another woman, was able to fill that need, a woman who's been deeply bruised and emotionally scarred, the escort named Paris ( Jessica Clark). They both share a strong connection that ultimately led to a heartwarming and sincere bond between them, although this will not be for keeps. In its entirety the movie is compelling and while the concept may not be generally fresh, the viewers, especially those in the middle-age bracket, will strongly relate to it. Viewers will feel a myriad of emotions with this film and will lead you to reexamine your thoughts. This is a movie that you shouldn't miss!

Moving and emotional, this film celebrates women during their strongest and weakest hours. While the central idea may be about one woman's quest for passion and orgasm, so many other issues come to view, like lesbianism, a rocky marriage, incest, family relationships and death, among others. These human concerns are brought up in the film's entirety. Niven delivered a glowing performance of Rebecca's character, in fact she's perfect for the role, as if it was created with her persona in mind. Although, I'd presume Meryl Streep could also portray it with similar conviction. Clark as the escort Paris was also convincing although there were scenes where her reactions and expressions were quite lukewarm. Nevertheless, this film is impressive in various levels and will stir raw emotions and opinions from viewers not quite familiar with seeing some really intimate scenes.  Personally, I think this is a highly unconventional but a fitting portrayal by Ms. Niven, she bared her all, she was an epitome of class, uptightness but ultimately a vixen unleashed, who in all her genuineness did have her perfect ending.  Truly a must-watch!

Barbara Niven as Rebecca is truly the film's strength and fortress. The very core of the story revolves around her;  her passionless life, her frustrations,  her need to quench a woman's inner desire. Her sensitivity in handling the character of Rebecca is effortless, seamless yet so on point. A woman, with her moments of light humor and candid clumsiness yet with deep emotional wounds.  Viewers will initially judge Paris the escort but as the film unfolds you shift gears, there follows sympathy, even pity for her situation and what life has offered her.  The flashbacks every now and then were initially confusing but after a while it will actually magnify and clear some sensitive details. This is a film that reckons, opens our eyes and explores a woman's deepest desires. Just enough reason for you not to miss this!
