One of the common pitfalls a short filmmaker will experience when making their first feature film, is they start telling a story that runs out of steam, or a 15 minute narrative is stretched out to 90 minutes and feels like it. Interestingly, director Sophie Hyde seems to set herself the challenge of tying together a thread of short stories (each of the 52 Tuesdays of the title), in a sort of Boyhood-esque experiment. For the most part, it works, until the narrative begins to build its own momentum and feels constrained by this structure which served it well in the beginning. Never mind, however, as this is a truly unique film in more ways than structure, and the performances are excellent. Cant wait to see what Hyde creates next.
