It all started with Stephen Frears and his searing film, Walter, in 1982. Channel 4 was the first UK broadcaster, through its film arm Film on Four - now known simply as Film4 - to develop and co-finance films and, crucially, to allow these films to play in cinemas before their television transmission on Channel 4.rnSince then, Film4 has had the prvilege of working with some of the most creative and exciting voices in British film: from the early films of Derek Jarman, Ken Loach, Peter Greenaway, Alan Clarke, Neil Jordan, Mike Leigh and Danny Boyle to more recent works from these and other great talents such as Steve McQueen, Shane Meadows, Jonathan Glazer, Andrea Arnold, Asif Kapadia, Michael Winterbottom, Paddy Considine, Richard Ayoade, Roger Michell, Kevin Macdonald, Martin McDonagh, Ben Wheatley to mention only a few.
