Voyaging into the lands and dreamscapes of an Apichatpong Weerasethakul film is like nothing else in existence. First, you need to sit back and get used to the way Weerasethakul sees this world - you have to adapt to him. As Uncle Boonmee nears the end of his life, the spirit of his late wife returns to guide him into the unknown, and his estranged son reappears in the form of a jungle spirit. Later, the ailing man leads his family on a journey to a hilltop cave where he first came into this world. This is the stuff of pure cinema - an escape from your senses into the great unknown - life after death. The great thing about this film is that it can speak to cineastes or even those not used to slower, more intense and thoughtful fayre, it's truly for everyone. Be prepared to get lost and emerge tingling all over!
