What a huge disappointment this was. I was all geared up for it, especially with Kimberley Peirce at the helm, expecting, perhaps not so much gore or spectacle as the original, but some seriously wrenching drama. But no. Instead we get a very vanilla horror film, with an excellent cast wasted on histrionically handled scenes that suck any sense of urgency or dread out of the situation. The very talented Peirce was not the right choice for this film, in fact I wonder if it should have been remade at all.
