Eccentric yet hypnotic! This is director S. Paradjanov's comeback to the silver screen after he was imprisoned. Some of his earlier works were exemplary such as Color of Pomegranates and in this film it just proves to show that he hasn't lost his mastery. This is a film that tackles the supernatural, poverty, exile and serfdom, among others and there were at least a few scenes where viewers witness women passing out. It is evidently a visual feast and with commendable cinematography and musical scoring.
