The Wishing Tree
Georgia, 1977, 107 minutes, SD Experimental, Drama
The scenic shots and the poppy fields are just one of the elements of this film that will stay with the viewers for a long time. This movie is part of the trilogy directed by T. Abuladze that made him famous, since it was renowned and reaped many awards like the Lenin Prize, and  Repentance, which was part of the trilogy won Special Jury Prize at the 1987 Cannes Film Festival. This film tackles issues bordering on the psyche of people, there are hints of lunacy, romance, desires and escapes. Aside from the heroine Marita, the character of Pupala, a quite queer and unusual woman, steals the scenes with her colorful attitude and unconventional manner. It's also generally a peak into Georgian life during the '70s era.
