French director François Ozon doesn't fail to impress with this film, the first he releases after the great success of "Potiche". Watching "In the House" may be a slightly uncomfortable experience, but nonetheless a positive one in that we can never for one second lose concentration. There is a blurring between fiction and reality that keeps us on our toes as teacher Germain Germain (Fabrice Luchini) reads his pupil's story through installments. Is his writing merely built on observations of his classmate's family or is his imagination running away with him?

Ernst Umhauer as Claude Garcia, the pupil, plays a brilliant role and knows how to perfectly unsettle the audience through his expressions and his openness about unconventional thoughts. We are left not knowing what to think of him, as is his teacher, who tries his best to do the right thing.

This film is well worth a watch and its merits were recognised at the 2012 San Sebastián International Film Festival, where it was awarded the main prize: the Golden Shell.
