Petty Romance
South Korea, 2010, 118 minutes, SD Comedy, Romance, Asian
The story may be quite cliche but I was particularly drawn to this film because of the two lead characters, Choi Gang-Hee who plays Da-Rim, former sex columnist with no real experience with men to boast of, and Lee Sun-Kyun as Jung-Bae a talented but bankrupt cartoonist. In  dire need of money, they team up to create an adult comic book in the hope of winning a contest with a huge cash prize. The acting performance of these two leads add up to the film's winning formula of comedic situations and quirky conversations. Known for her role in the black romantic comedy My Scary Girl, Choi Gang-Hee is also into various media work like acting on tv and being radio dj. Her natural flair as comedienne shines through in this film. On the other hand, Lee Sun-Kyun is spontaneous, expressive and consistent. His theater background could well be a good explanation for this. Best known for "Coffee Prince", Lee Sun-Kyun proves to be a great match for Choi in this film and viewers will have a great time relishing their arguments and bickerings as they engage in a war of ideas towards clinching that cash prize they want so badly. This South Korean hit film should be on your to-watch list this weekend!
