Sort of a prequel to Home Alone (with some identical scenes), the whole of this movie rests on the shoulders of Candy, and he knocks it out of the park. It's one of John Hughes' later films which has all of his marks all over it, yet because it is geared at a more primarily family audience, the result isn't as sharp. Which is why Candy raises it to something more, with everyone else just watching him have a ball. The relationships between him and Jean Louisa Kelly and Amy Madigan leave the rest of the family in the shade, which is a nice twist and I wonder if that was initially how it was supposed to play out.
