I was not ready for this. Miyazaki is incapable of making a bad film but rarely, if ever, has he made something this beautifully bittersweet. This is a film of conflicting emotions, capturing the dreams and designs of Jiro Horikoshi in all their majesty without shying away from the horrors they facilitated. The whole thing has the feel of an old fashioned tearjerker but with all the warm humour and vibrancy we've come to expect from Ghibli. I frigging loved this film.
