2008 Palmes d'Or at Cannes Film Festival was definitely a social and educational choice. The Class is an adaptation from a book written by François Bégaudeau (who also plays the teacher). It depicts a high-school class from the Parisian suburbs; and it pushes right where it hurts. I grew up on the same environment, with its ups and downs, joy and doubtful moments. So I could relate to the daily life of this class, and even though the film raises the issues in the current French society, Laurent Cantet doesn't forget to add funny lines and situation. I can recommend The Class to all students and parents in the world.
