Revenge begets revenge but is it all worth it?  Director Kurosawa's compelling film "Serpent's Path" is  as slithery and slippery as the serpent in that the twists will keep viewers guessing.  While we see an emotionally bruised father who seeks revenge for the murder of his daughter, the simple and unassuming professor who helps him has a questionable function and creates suspicion. Commendable performances especially by Sho Aikawa as Nijima, the professor and the movie has great atmospheric camera work including wide shots, a trademark of Kurosawa. Engrossing and compelling, this film won Best Film for director Kurosawa and Best Actor for Aikawa at the Japanese Professional Movie Awards.
