Pablo Larraín's film with the outstanding and well-known actor in the Hispanic world, Gael García Bernal, launches us into 1980s Chile at a critical point for the country: the 1988 plebiscite which decides whether the dictator Pinochet will stay or go. The power of advertising is brilliantly demonstrated. The 'No' campaign is headed by René Saavedra, a successful man in advertising and who faces foul play from the 'Yes' campaign, who use advertising to lie to the Chilean people. Will the people hear to the truth? And if they do, will they be allowed to speak? Chile is under pressure; the whole world is watching...
