Dwight Price is an impressionable young man who runs with the wrong crowd in East Austin, Texas. When Dwight’s cousin Brian urges revenge for an unknown offense against Dwight, the two set out with a couple of friends, a gun, and adrenaline in search of their victim. The car pulls up in front of a late-night party. Dwight jumps out, aims—and fires. Later, back at home, Dwight turns on the TV and finds that the intended target is still alive, but someone else was caught in the crossfire: an innocent 17-year-old girl.
Afraid, Dwight starts running until he reaches the highway—and makes his way from there, on foot, across the United States to find a former high-school teacher, the only person who has ever believed in him. So Dwight's real journey begins.
What begins as Boyz n the Hood for the 21st century soon transforms into a retelling of On the Road, with urban youth standing in for the Beat Generation. Shooting in four different states over the course of 21 days, writer-director-producer Maria Breaux hired local actors to fill out the cast, led by Thomas Galasso as Dwight.
