I really wanted to love Monsters. It's got a killer premise, some neat direction and a crazy amount of ambition. The director Gareth Edwards wrote and directed and did all of the special effects on his laptop.\r\n\r\nSadly though I couldn't really get into Monsters, and the problem lies with the main characters. Something (whether it's the script, the actors, or the direction) leaves the relationship between them feeling a bit forced. The low budget means that the film's really hangs on this particular aspect of it and without there isn't enough to call Monsters a success.\r\n\r\nHaving said that, I still look forward to whatever Gareth Edwards puts out in future. Directors of such vision and ambition deserve to be rewarded.
