How overrated was this film!? There is next to nothing original about it, save the intriguing opening act which merges religious sectarianism with science-fiction, which is alas dumped in favour of a storyline that pilfers from a bunch of other sci-fi movies, leading to an inexplicable ending that is a disservice to all the fine talent on both sides of the camera. Why did they do this? I wonder if it was Warner Bros studio meddling that asked for a 'crowd-pleasing' ending, which basically has the same build-up as 'Take Shelter' but is a complete cop-out as it gives you exactly what you would expect. A real shame as there is so much to like about this film, mainly the performances and a couple of gripping set-ups.
