The film is sad more than horrifying. The sadness comes from the fact that Abel is consumed (in this case, literally) by his work. The crisp cinematography and modern production design represents “modern man’s” goal to happiness, success. But unfortunately success and happiness are relative and can’t be measured by achievements alone. That’s the harsh lesson Abel had to learn.
