Existential, experimental and downright cheeky to the max, in a way only the Czechs can do it (despite this coming from a Polish director, I felt the vibe coming from further south-east...), this is an extraordinary and pretty fun meta trip into commentaries about religion and art, daubed in rich colours and wholly original set-ups. You get a sense that the director is throwing everything he has at the screen, so it's a bit messy, but the central character of Vasek is endearing enough to pull you through it till the end. I had a lot of fun with this one.
