Something went seriously wrong with this one. How Howard could have followed up the excellent Rush with this, I don't know. Perhaps the scale of it meant he was in over his head. The green screen during the first half hour of this film is embarrassing, and the story doesn't know whether it wants to follow the whale, the rivalry between the leads, or be a fable about the last embers of life when facing death in the face. It flip-flops between all three, all via flashback, and is very messy. A pity as there's some A-grade casting here.
