Karoline Herfurth is Germany's best high jumper, but she's also Jewish, so she is manuevered into returning to Germany from England for the '36 Games, only to then be replaced by Sebastian Urzendowsky, a German man (rumoured to be intersex) who is also an excellent high jumper, but not Jewish. This is a fascinating insight and expose of what was, at the time and the years following, a little known cover-up. All the players in this story give game performances and the production design is lush. This reminds me of those Sunday afternoon historical biopics shorn of violence and action sequences, that aren't in vogue right now. Really enjoyed this one.
